Why TrueCare?
TrueCare is a service that can help parents protect their children as they network online. It can be summed up in three easy parts. 1) Monitor – we’ll watch their Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, MySpace and Bebo accounts 24/7 regardless of where they access their account - home, a friend's house, school, even their cell phone. 2) Alert – we notify you via email when we find inappropriate or dangerous content, and when they friend an adult. 3) Educate – We help educate you by letting you know who they are friending, what photos and videos they are posting and by providing resources (blog, Internet safety resources, etc.) to keep you up to speed on the new technologies they use to stay in touch with their friends. We help you educate your children - with access to articles and tools you can use to have great conversations with them about how to protect themselves from danger while enjoying the fun aspects of social networking.
Internet filtering software only monitors your child's activity on the computer it is installed on. Your child has access to their social network accounts from many other locations - a friend's house, their smart phone, school, etc. TrueCare allows you to monitor their social network activity regardless of where they access from and we alert you whenever problematic content is found.
Having your child's username and password is a great start. But who wants to risk their child's safety because they didn't have the time to check out every page of the child's social network accounts, read each post, or check out each photo. That's where TrueCare comes in. Our goal is to make it easy for you to know when problematic content is being posted. We alert you via email when they friend an adult, and when problematic content is posted on their page by them or about them (by bullies). Timely alerts allow you to have meaningful discussions with your child about any of that content that concerns you.
Being connected to your child's social network account by being "friended" or "following" them is a great start. But TrueCare is a great tool in addition to that because: 1) it allows you to monitor even content your child might use privacy settings to hide from you; and 2) helps you filter through enormous amounts of content your child might be posting to see just the content that might be problematic. Our goal is to help make it faster and easier for you to know when potential problems occur so you can talk with your child about them.
TrueCare monitors your child's activity on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, MySpace, and Bebo. We monitor their network of friends, the photos they post and search comments, posts, status updates, profiles, private messages, photo and video captions and descriptions. We alert you if your child friends an adult or a person that has no other mutual friends with your child on that network. We also notify you if we find any content that includes any of the key words in our database. The actual content we can monitor varies for each social network. TrueCare currently monitors activity on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, MySpace and Bebo.
You know your relationship with your child the best, so that is a personal choice that we will leave up to you. We do encourage open communication with your child wherever possible. It lets your child know you care and creates opportunities for open dialog regarding some of the dangers of using the Internet.
